ATreeM, a project of (T)reality, is public sculpture involving ‘value’ and ‘exchange’ with trees and rocks and streams. It seeks to re-value reality, casting our natural resources as if they were the commodities of our culture. Banks or other institutions serving the capitalist system are exchanged for trees; ATreeM invests in REAL Resources, those which are actually life-giving and of value to humans. Trees, Rocks, Soil and Water are utilized to stand in for banks by receiving, storing or investing our currency, time and attention as a means of shifting our view of what kind of commodities are of value to humans. Ideas of Value, Culture and Commodity become a subtle dialogue held in the forest.
